Meeting with Ontario Power Generation Representatives
On November 5, 2021, a virtual meeting was held with Mr. Matt Mulvihill, of the Ontario Power Generation Stakeholder Relations and Mr. John Sanna, Site Environmental Advisor for the Eastern Region of OPG and John Sliter of our Society. There was some strategic discussion around the involvement of various stakeholders as John Sliter provided an update as to some of the activities in our Society and what we have been up to. It was agreed how important inter-departmental partnerships between all stakeholders will be vital to the success of this project. A copy of the Biotactic Proposal was sent to Mr. Mulvihill and Mr. Sanna for their review. Mr. Mulvihill described the OPG Corporate Citizenship program and the various types of projects OPG has supported. He also described how best to make an application to OPG for this type of funding support.
Incorporation Status
We have started with the Incorporation of our Society and will be reaching out to each and every member to confirm their level of interest as a voting general member. The Incorporation process is being handled by Sustainable Eastern Ontario – https://sustainableeasternontario.ca/
Website Construction
Jillian Sliter is a Graphic Artist working in the Barrie, Ontario area and she has volunteered her time to create an official website for our ‘Friends of Hoople Creek’ group. If any group members have any constructive ideas on the building of this site, please send them in to hooplecreek@cogeco.ca.
Hoople Creek ‘River Watch’
We could use some assistance from EVERYONE to share some photos on our Facebook Group and onto our website. Please consider sharing any photos you might take of wildlife, fish, aquatic life, water levels, weed growth, etc, with our Group. It is all about constant vigilance and awareness as we all work together to protect this nature reserve!
Finally, although things are expected to quiet down in the winter months (Some of us are heading south!), we will strive to keep you posted on a regular basis as our efforts continue to raise awareness of the plight of the Hoople Creek fishery. We will also be working diligently to solicit various grant applications to help fund the underwater cameras. Please share this newsletter as you see fit and encourage all of your friends and family with a concern for Hoople Creek to join us!
