Thank you to everyone who attended the Friends of Hoople Creek Society Annual General Meeting on May 9th, 2026!
This year’s AGM highlighted the tremendous progress being made to protect, restore, and promote the Hoople Creek and Hoople Bay ecosystem for future generations.
Some of the key updates shared during the meeting included:
• Continued advocacy and collaboration with municipal, provincial, federal, and conservation partners to help protect water levels and the health of Hoople Bay and Creek
• Updates from our successful 2026 Ice Fishing Derby and Annual Kayak Run, including environmental observations and monitoring along the creek system
• Ongoing monitoring of the annual Spring Walleye Run and fish sanctuary conditions
• Exciting progress on the Hoople Bay Nature Trails restoration project, including trail grooming, grass mowing, bench installations, and boardwalk restoration completed through Fall 2025 and Spring 2026
• Planning for future enhancements including additional benches, bird viewing stations, owl houses, and continued habitat restoration efforts
• A look at the upcoming CMC / Friends of Hoople Creek BioBlitz and our partnership with the Cornwall & Area Birding Club to build owl houses later this month
Our mission remains clear:
“To work collaboratively with all interested and invested parties to ensure the Hoople Creek / Hoople Bay fishery and surrounding environment remains healthy, well managed and available to all stakeholders for recreational purposes.”
We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers, directors, community partners, sponsors, and supporters who continue to help move these projects forward.
There is still much work ahead — but together, by taking small steps and demonstrating success, we can continue restoring and protecting this important natural area.
